The self is not the brain itself but what the brain produces.

 The self is not the brain itself but what the brain produces. That is, consciousness. And consciousness is abstract. When I look at a photograph of a brain, I am not looking at myself but at the "device" that creates me. Because “I” does not and cannot physically exist.
